Who We Are
At Gateway, we believe God is inviting us into something ancient yet entirely new: a modern-day monastery. At Gateway we're answering that call.
We aren't withdrawing from the world; we are anchoring within it, creating a living community where prayer is the heartbeat and practical love are the hands.
It began with prayer and fasting. We chose not to ask for anything ourselves, simply giving our dreams for the church back to God. In that quiet time the Holy Spirit spoke, and a clear vision emerged: a calling to become a house of prayer.
Cornwall has always carried this kind of life. For over 1,500 years, Celtic saints planted communities of prayer at Cornwall's thin places. Launceston has always been the spiritual gateway into Cornwall. Today we aren’t just remembering the history - we are reclaiming the gate.
A modern-day monastery looks different from the cloisters of old, yet it carries the same heartbeat:
● a shared rhythm of prayer, worship, work, rest and formation that keeps our hearts burning and our lives grounded.
● It is a hub of hospitality, creativity, discipleship and mission - already serving through cafés, friendship groups, gardening, training and practical care.
● A community standing watch at the gate - listening to God and discerning what He is bringing in and what He is holding back.
We are not trying to recreate the past. We are responding to the fresh movement of the Holy Spirit in our day. We want to be a people of presence - formed deeply in Christ so that mission flows naturally from intimacy rather than striving.
